He Won the Fight

Last night I started questioning the need to vaccinate a mature dog while we were on route with Baxter to the emergency vet clinic.

My dear lil' Baxter ballooned up complete with hives all over his body because of an allergic reaction to his annual vaccine and rabies shot. His entire face swelled up so bad that he looked like an old school boxer that lost his last fight.

My questioning was justified when a Pug arrived at the clinic for the exact same reason, Bailey's swelling was so bad she actually stopped breathing and her mom had to perform mouth to mouth.

If you can, spread the shots out so his little body has a better chance of handling the vaccinations. Some vets recommend that dogs with smooshed faces have the shots spread out. If they have a severe reaction it can do a number on their breathing/nasal passages.
