Sandbox or Chambers?

Late Tuesday evenings you can usually find me watching my city council meetings on local cable. It is my way of staying on top of White Rock's ongoings and a way to secretly live the life of a city councilor. 'City councilor Kris' has a nice ring to it doesn't it? Anyway, last night's chamber meeting ended with me saying out loud "These are the people we elected right?"

In order for this post to make sense I will have to tell you a little about what happened during a council meeting last year. Margaret Woods, a council member stabbed councilor Cliff Anabell's cheek with her pen. Margaret reported that she felt threatened; obviously she couldn't keep her emotions is check. Anyway, last night Margaret brought up a topic that needed to be discussed off camera because it was out of order. She then requested that an enforcement officer be present because she felt she would be in harms way. Cliff, the acting mayor, said he thought it wasn't necessary, Margaret then stated that she wanted it recorded in the meeting minutes that her request for protection was denied.

What the heck is going on in our councilor's chambers? Sometimes I think it is a sandbox full of a bunch of well paid children.

If you feel that strongly - voice your opinion to the city hall. You are probably not the only one feeling that you are misrepresented as a White Rock citizen. You will find out there are other voices out there - join the choir.
